While the wearing of white roses was the way for artists to show solidarity with the #TimesUp movement at the Grammys, Lorde opted for words instead.

The New Zealand singer stitched an excerpt of artist Jenny Holzer's Inflammable Essays on the back of her dress instead of a white rose, which she posted on Instagram.

"My version of a white roseTHE APOCALYPSE WILL BLOSSOMan excerpt from the greatest of all time, jenny holzer," Lorde's caption read.

Holzer's work, penned between 1977 to 1982, were a series of 31 essays printed on colourful cards. The work's typeface resembled newspaper headlines, and the work sought to question the way truth is generated.
